Fishing Report - Jan. 18, 2012

Crappie - Crappie catches continues to be good.  Nice quanities and quality crappie are still being caught.  Crappie are still in the deep water on the south end of the lake around the dam….trolling in 25-30 feet of water.  Jig colors bubble gum, acid rain and wild cat.  Jig head colors are white, red and orange.

Bream/Shellcrackers - No Reports.

Bass - ABA had a good tournament this past weekend.  Big fish was 8lb./9oz. caught by Rob Lawhon.  First place 13.59..Vic Pickles, second place 12.38..Matt Pickles and third place 10.75…Rob Lawhon.

Catfish - Nice catches of catfish also being caught….with stink bait.

Crappie - Good catches of crappie are still coming in…and most of them are averaging 12″ and over.  We have had several weighed in over 2lbs.  This season so for has been great…the size and catches of crappie is the best in 4 or 5 years.  Still trolling in about 30 feet of water.  Color Jigs…Acid Rain, Bubble Gum, Yellow Jacket and Wild Cat has been the main colors.  Litewire hooks colors…orange, white and red.

Bream/Shellcrackers - Shellcrackers are still being caught in the river using red worms.

Bass - No reports

Catfish -  Lots of catfish still being caught on stink bait.

Crappie - November was a great month…lots of crappie was caught….and the crappie was really nice sizes and Dec. is starting off just like Nov.  the fishing is great..limits are still being caught…main areas for fishing is anywhere from boy scout creek to the dam….also good reports in the river.  Fish are being caught trolling in about 18 to 24 feet.  Jig colors….acid rain, popsicle and tenn. shad.  Jig head colors…red, white and orange.

Bream/Shellcrackers -  Some good catches of shellcrackers are being caught in the river…with big red worms.

Bass - No Reports

Catfish - Lots of catfish still being caught all over the lake with stink bait.

Crappie - This has been a great month for the crappie.  Limits are still being caught and most of them are 12 inches and over.  Best fishing reports are still around boy scout creek in 17 - 20 feet of water.  Jig colors bubblegum, acid rain, tenn. shad/chartreuse and blue ice.  Jig heads chartreuse, orange and white.

Bream - Bream have slowed down…..very few being caught.

Bass- Bass are still being caught off the ledges in 8 - 10 feet of water.  Worms and spinner baits.

Catfish - Catfish are being caught all over the lake with stink bait.

Crappie - The crappie have really been bitting good…limits are being caught everyday.  Best fishing reports for locations are from Bell Lake to Boy scout creek in 17 - 20 feet of water.  Best jig colors are bubblegum, popsicle, blue/black/chartreuse and acid rain.

Bass - Bass are still being caught in 8 - 10 feet of water off the ledges.  Worms and spinner bait.

Bream - Limits of bream are still being caught in the Rocky Comfort creek and around Little River.  Crickets and red worms.

Catfish - Lots of catfish are still being caught with stink bait and green worms.

Talquin Report (2 Nov 11)

Crappie:  The crappie have been biting pretty good, but the wind has slowed many fishermen from going after them.  Most fish are in the open water across from Bell Lake. Results of the Rusty Leverett Memorial held 29 October 11:  1st Place: Scott Williams @ Brice Berryhill with weight of 11lb 8oz and Big Fish 1 lb 12 oz, 2nd place:  Jarret Leverette @ Danny Cannon 11 lb 3 oz, 3rd place: Curtis Hobbs @ Gerald Manning 10 lb 10 oz.  Special thanks to all fishermen for remembering Rusty Leverette.

Bass:  The wind has slowed most from venturing out but some reports of Bass being caught in the creeks.

Bream:  Still biting crickets and worms.  A limit was brought in this morning.

Catfish:  Catfish are biting in the 12 -14 foot water using stink baits.

Crappie:  The Crappie are beginning to pick up.  One fisherman had the limit this morning trolling jigs in 12-16 foot of water.  The best color was acid rain, Bubblegum, and blue chartruse.  Most were caught in the flats close to trash.

Bream/Shellcrackers:  The bream and Shellcrackers are biting pretty good.  Most are caught on crickets and worms for the shellcrackers.

Bass:  Several large bass have been caught the last week.  One fisherman had one close to 10 pounds on a Zoom Worm.

Catfish:  Anywhere and everywhere on the lake.

 Lake Talquin Lodge will be sponsoring The 2nd Annual Rusty Leverette Crappie Tournament on October 29, 2011.. This is a non-profit tournament with a 100% payback to the contestants with a 1 in 5 boat pay out…For example if there are 15 boats, the top 5 will recieve a pay out. Entry Fee: $100 per boat (1 or 2 persons per boat) Entrance Fee is CASH Only!!
Big Fish: $10
Registration: Must be registered and entrance fee paid no later than 6:30 a.m. October 29, 2011.
Fishing Times: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Weigh in: Must be in line for Weigh In no later than 4:30 p.m.
There is a maximum of 8 poles per boat and 2 baits per pole.

 

Fishing Report - August 15, 2011

Crappie - Still few reports on crappie other than fishing trash piles with minnows. 

Bream/Shellcrackers - The bream and shellcrackers have still been doing really well.  This full moon has brought in some nice catches.  Bait being used is crickets, giant big reds and green worms…still in 3 - 5 feet of water.

Bass - Good reports on large mouth bass and white bass.  Large mouth bass on the ledges and white bass in the creeks.  Worms and rattle traps has been the main bait used.

Catfish - Catfish is still being caught all over the lake with green worms and stink bait.

Crappie - Few reports of crappie still being caught over trash piles with minnows.

Bream & Shellcrackers - Limits of bream and shellcrackers still being caught all over the lake.  Some reports of big catches on beds and other being caught gathered up in 3 to 4 feet of water.  Bait being used is crickets, green worms and giant bed reds.

Bass- Good reports on bass off river ledges with worms.  Also, the stripper bass have been hitting really well up in the creeks.

Catfish - Catfish still being caught all over the lake with stink bait and green worms.

June 11, 2011 Fishing Report

Crappie - The crappie have slowed down…some are still being caught trolling with jigs in about 12 feet of water in the mouths of the creeks and some over structure.  Jig colors popsicle, blue/black char. and acid rain.  Lite wire hooks….white, black and red.

Bream/Shellcrackers - This has been a good year for the bream and shellcrackers… limits are still being caught and the size of fish has been really good.  Had good reports from all the creeks and little river…..using red worms, green worms, wigglers and crickets.  Check out the picture of the 1 1/2 lb. shellcracker…caught on a green worm.

Bass - Good reports on large mouth bass on the points and pads……zoom worms and rattle traps.

Catfish - Catfish are still being caught all over the lake with green worms and Sonny’s stick bait.

The water is still low all over the lake…but has not effected the fishing….we still have plenty for lanching boats.
